After accused of being racist over her Aaliyah costume, the mother of three apologizes and says, 'We were paying homage to people and artists we love and respect -- it's that simple!

AceShowbiz - Kim Kardashian has responded to backlash over her Aaliyah costume for Halloween. After she was accused of being racist for dressing up as the late music icon in an outfit inspired by her "Try Again" music video for the festive holiday, the 37-year-old reality TV star is both apologizing for and defending her "offensive" costume.

"Aaliyah was such an amazing singer and she will forever be a music legend," Kim wrote on her website. "I saw online that some people thought my costume was in poor taste and I am truly sorry if that offended anyone," she continued, explaining that "when I was creating the costume, I wasn't dressing up as a race or culture but rather as a woman whom I will always admire."

"I play every kind of genre of music in my home and I like for my kids to be exposed to many different artists. For me, it's always about love and respect," the blonde beauty went on saying. "I loved that Kourtney [Kourtney Kardashian] was Michael Jackson for one of her costumes, and that my son [North West] was Axel Rose."

"We don't see color in my home," the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star noted in her post, adding that she and her famous family "were paying homage to people and artists we love and respect -- it's that simple!"

Aaliyah was not the only legendary performer that Kim channeled while celebrating the spooky holiday earlier this week. She previously dressed up as her idol Cher, with with best pal Jonathan Cheban by her side channeling Sonny Bono.

Kim and the longtime family pal were opting for the look worn by the legendary singer/actress and her then husband at the 1973 Academy Awards. The mother of three showed off her toned abs in an embellished yellow crop top and matching skirt while sporting a long silky wig and huge earrings. Jonathan, meanwhile, transformed into Sonny with his wig and mustache.

The beautiful wife of Kanye West also caught people's attention for her portrayals of other music icons including Madonna. Along with sister Kourtney who dressed up as MJ, Kim recreated the famous look of the King and Queen of Pop at the Academy Awards in 1991.
