Selena Gomez and her longtime friend Francia Raisa speak out about the kidney transplant in an interview for "Today" show. In a sneak peek of the interview, the 25-year-old singer gets tearful as she recalls the health scare and credits the 29-year-old actress for donating her kidney.
"My kidneys were just done. That was it," the former Disney darling says, adding, "I didn't want to ask a single person in my life and that was the day, when I came home, I found out she volunteered and did it."
"Today" host Savannah Guthrie asks the "Bad Liar" songstress, "You feel that Francia saved your life?" Selena replies, "Because she did. That's It." She goes on sharing, "I guess I got to the point where it was really, kind of, life or death."
Selena admits what she went through with Francia "wasn't easy." "I just hope that this inspires people to feel good that there are really good people in the world," she says as tears roll down her cheek.
Selena revealed on her Instagram account in September that she underwent kidney transplant last summer. "I'm very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn't promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of. So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering," she wrote at the time, sharing a picture of her and Francia in hospital beds.
She added, "And finally, there aren't words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis."
