AceShowbiz - Brad Pitt's upcoming film "Ad Astra" kicked off principal photography in California in mid-August, and on Wednesday, October 4, a batch of set photos surfaced online. The photos taken from the Baker set featured the 53-year-old actor slipping into an astronaut suit, presumably to shoot an intergalactic scene.
The actor had a U.S. flag patched on the shoulder of his space suit. Before rocking the intergalactic costume, he was seen heading to the filming set in a white long-sleeve shirt while carrying a script under his arm. He had his hair standing up in a messy way while showing the gray stubble along his jawline.
Pitt returning to the filming set came just a few weeks after his grandmother Betty Russell passed away without ever fulfilling her dying wish of seeing her grandson one last time. At the age of 95, Russell, affectionately known as "Meema", peacefully passed away on September 14 at a local hospital after spending her last years in the sub-standard one-star Rose Manor Nursing Center in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
In "Ad Astra", Pitt portrays Roy McBride who, twenty years after his father left on a one-way mission to Neptune in order to find signs of extra-terrestrial intelligence, travels through the solar system to find him and understand why his mission failed.
Serving behind the lens for the space epic is James Gray, with filming taking place in the small desert city of Baker. The 48-year-old helmer, who also wrote and directed last year's "The Lost City of Z" starring Charlie Hunnam and Robert Pattinson, is directing the upcoming flick from a script written by Ethan Gross, a TV writer known for his work on FOX's sci-fi series "Fringe".
The sci-fi flick is set for a January 11, 2019 release in theaters across the nation. It also stars Tommy Lee Jones as Pitt's on-screen father Clifford McBride as well as Ruth Negga, Donald Sutherland, Jamie Kennedy, John Finn, Kimberly Elise and Lisa Gay Hamilton.
