"X-Men: Dark Phoenix" is bringing back original Colossus actor Daniel Cudmore. While the 36-year-old Canadian actor took on the role of the metallic mutant whose alter-ego is Piotr "Peter" Rasputin in the "X-Men" film franchise, he probably won't reprise the role in the upcoming Simon Kinberg-directed film.

Cudmore first sparked speculations he would be appearing in "Dark Phoenix" after he was spotted in Montreal earlier this year around the time the movie was filming. But it also led to some confusion about what character the actor would play as he already bowed out of his role as Colossus and handed it over to Stefan Kapicic in Deadpool".

The hunky actor didn't comment at the time. But on Monday, September 18 he responded to a fan who asked him about his role in the upcoming movie, though he declined to specify what character he's playing. "Dan ru playing Colossus in X-Men Dark Phoenix? Or might it b for the role of Gladiator?" asked the fan, to which the actor replied, "I can't comment on what character I'm playing, sorry.."

Gladiator is the leader of the Shi'ar Imperial Guard. In the original "Dark Phoenix Saga", there is a showdown between the X-Men and the Imperial Guard on the moon. It remains to be seen whether Fox indeed cast Cudmore for Gladiator, who is the Guard's leader.

"Dark Phoenix" reportedly follows Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) whose powers are amplified when she comes in contact with a cosmic energy called the Phoenix Force. Jessica Chastain was previously rumored to take on the role of Lilandra, an alien empress who leads the quest to imprison and execute Dark Phoenix. But the actress recently debunked the rumor by writing in the comment section of one of her Instagram posts, "Hey folks, ant a scoop? Im not playing Lilandra....."

In addition to Turner, the returning cast includes James McAvoy as Professor X, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Nicholas Hoult as the Beast and Alexandra Shipp as Storm. Additionally, "The Originals" star Summer Fontana joins the cast to play the younger version of Jean Grey, while "Paper Towns" actress Halston Sage is rumored to join the cast as Dazzler.

Directed by Kinberg from a script he wrote, the thirteenth installment of the "X-Men" film series is scheduled to be released in theaters across the nation on November 2, 2018. Speaking to Total Film for its October issue, the helmer reveals that he wants to "ground" the intergalactic adventure in the film, which marks his directorial debut. He notes that it will remain "human" and "emotional."
