While he didn't dish on the drama, the British singer defended the songstress against haters as he claimed that he got along with her professionally.

AceShowbiz - Zayn Malik has come to Taylor Swift's aid amid the controversy circling around her new music. In an interview with The FADER, the British heartthrob claimed that he respected Taylor professionally as they have hit the studio together. While he gave no further comment about the drama she is currently in, Zayn shared that Taylor deserves her success.

"I rate her as an artist, I think she's cool, I think she's successful, and I think she deserves her success because she's worked hard," he said. "That's just how I look at it. I did a song with her, it was fun, she was professional. She gets on with my girlfriend [Gigi Hadid], they're good friends. I don't have a bad word to say about her. She's cool."

During the interview, the singer also dished on his upcoming sophomore album. "This record, I've kind of finalized it. But there's always ideas. Every day I find another song that I'm swapping out with another one," he explained. "That's why the album date hasn't really come yet. Even though the album is pretty much there, and I have the material, I'm still changing things here and there. It's not necessary in my head when I work on a song whether it's for a new project or whether it's for this."

Zayn, who recently released new song "Dusk Till Dawn", further revealed that he has been working so hard on the new effort that he couldn't attend the VMAs. As an artist, the former One Direction star said that he wants to focus solely on music instead of promotions. "I don't really want to do s**tloads of promotions," he shared. "I don't buy into that side of things. I just want to do my music."

In another interview with BBC's Radio 1, the "Pillowtalk" hitmaker confirmed that Nicki Minaj would be featured on his upcoming effort, which serves as the follow-up to "Mind of Mine". Zayn has released two collaborative tracks off the new album so far, including "Dusk Till Dawn" featuring Sia Furler and "Still Got Time" featuring PARTYNEXTDOOR.
