'Justice League' Serving as a 'Direct Sequel' to 'Batman v Superman'

In addition to revealing that the new film is 'a direct sequel' to the 2016 film, a new report suggests that fans could learn more about Clark Kent's resurrection sooner than expected.

AceShowbiz - As "Justice League" is nearing its release, a new report has emerged suggesting that it will serve as "a direct sequel" to last year's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice". Total Film magazine is the first to report the news.

Aside from the Man of Steel's sacrifice inspiring the Caped Crusader to enlist Earth's metahumans to defeat a new threat, we now know that the events of the film which is due out in U.S. theaters on September 17 are definitely linked to the 2016 DC team-up flick.

In its latest issue, the mag also suggests fans could learn more about Clark Kent's (Henry Cavill) resurrection sooner than expected. As claimed by the mag, "Justice League" "begins with Henry Cavill's Superman in the ground having sacrificed himself to Doomsday."

That's not a big surprise, given that the latest trailer depicted a world still in mourning. The film's marketing has also mostly avoided showing Superman. But the Last Son of Krypton was finally featured alongside the League in a promotional poster released earlier this month.

He was seen looming large over his teammates in the poster. The team looked ready for battle, with Ben Affleck's Batman, Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa's Aquaman, Ezra Miller's The Flash and Ray Fisher's Cyborg all striking bold poses alongside the Man of Steel, who showed off his dauntless look.

The new team will face off against Steppenwolf, played by Ciaran Hinds, in the flick. Other cast members include Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Amber Heard as Mera, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner James Gordon, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko.

In "Justice League", fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat.

But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes--Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash--it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
