The 'Bachelor' star and his final pick called it quits after getting engaged in the season 21 finale of the dating show which aired in March.

AceShowbiz - Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi have split. "The Bachelor" star and his final pick, who got engaged in the season 21 finale of the dating show which aired in March, decided to call it quits after giving "this relationship our all."

Nick and Vanessa announced their split on Friday, August 25. They told E! News in a joint statement, "It's with a great amount of heartbreak for the both us as we have decided to end our engagement." They explained, "We gave this relationship our all and we are saddened that we did not get the fairytale ending we hoped for. We will continue to be there for each other no matter what. This hasn't been an easy decision, however, as we part ways, we do so with lots of love and admiration for each other."

After the sad news broke, "Bachelor" twins Emily and Haley Ferguson, who vied for Ben Higgins' heart in his season of the dating show and appeared on "Bachelor in Paradise" with Nick, dished to PEOPLE that Nick and Vanessa had "tried very hard to make their relationship work."

"I think it's funny that a lot of the girls from Nick's season claim to know Nick and his relationship with Vanessa. Emily and I were both fortunate enough to become very close to both Nick and Vanessa," the Ferguson sisters said in a joint statement. "We hung out with them not only together but also separately."

"They both loved each other very much and tried very hard to make their relationship work," they continued. "Like any normal relationship outside of the spotlight, they had their ups and downs. We love them both very much and hope that everyone will respect their privacy during this hard time."

Vanessa and Nick have spent most of their time in Los Angeles together ever since their televised proposal. Vanessa even left her job as a special education teacher in Montreal to relocate to L.A., where Nick was competing in season 24 of "Dancing with the Stars".

Earlier this summer, they revealed how things were going. "We're just not really spending a lot of time apart," the 36-year-old hunk explained to E! News at the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation's Blue Diamond Gala. "She's spending a lot of time out here in L.A. and we'll keep doing that."

Nick also traveled with Vanessa to her hometown of Montreal on more than one occasion, visiting family and showing support for the No Better You charity. Vanessa admitted that staying home with her man wasn't too bad either as they got to enjoy their share of date nights in and around Hollywood.

"Staying home in your pajamas and not having to put curlers in your hair and make-up and having to dress up and put up a push-up bra. Nick cooking shirtless isn't a bad date," she shared. "I discovered his cooking skills like the morning after we got engaged. He was making his delicious French toast." she added, noting, "Just staying home and lounging is nice."
