"Scandal" is reportedly nearing its end. The upcoming seventh season will be the last for the Shonda Rhimes-created drama, according to TVLine. Multiple sources tell the site that ABC is expected to make the formal announcement at its upfront presentation next week.

It's reportedly Rhimes who made the decision to conclude the series after season 7 and ABC accepted her decision. ABC, ABC Studios and Shondaland have not made comment on the report. The network ordered a seventh season of the political thriller in February this year.

Rhimes previously said that, unlike the long-running "Grey's Anatomy", "Scandal" serialized-narrative had a finite amount to be told. "So I know what the end of 'Scandal' will be, and I feel really good about that. And I can see where the end point is. And I don't think I'm going to change that," she told NPR.

ABC president Channing Dungey, meanwhile, said earlier this year that she didn't know about the show's future beyond the seventh season. "We have not really talked about what happens after that," she told Variety. "But I love the show, and I would happily keep the show on as long as she feels that she has creative runway to write the show."

"Scandal" season 6 airs Thursdays at 9 P.M. on ABC.
