The Weinstein Company has released a trailer for drama comedy "3 Generations". Starring Elle Fanning, Naomi Watts and Susan Sarandon, the movie follows a teenager named Ray (Fanning), who decides to have a transition from female to male when he realizes that he is boy trapped in girl's body. Meanwhile, his family must learn to cope with the decision.

In the early part of the trailer, Ray explains, "I was raised in New York by my mom, my mom's mom and my mom's mom's girlfriend." Ray later says that the hardest part of his days is when he acknowledges that everybody sees him as a girl.

Elsewhere in the video, Ray's lesbian grandmother Dolly (Sarandon) says to Ray's mother Maggie (Watts), "Why can't she just be a lesbian?" to which Maggie answers with, "Because she's not a lesbian, mom, she's a boy." Maggie later tries to track down Ray's biological father to get his legal consent to allow Ray's transition.

"3 Generations" is directed by Gaby Dellal, who also co-writes the script along with Nikole Beckwith. The movie first premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2015 under the title "About Ray".

A family living under one roof in New York must deal with a life-changing transformation by one that ultimately affects them all. Ray is a teenager who has come to the realization that he isn't meant to be a girl and has decided to transition from female to male.

His single mother, Maggie, must track down Ray's biological father to get his legal consent to allow Ray's transition. Dolly, Ray's lesbian grandmother, is having a hard time accepting that she now has a grandson. They must each confront their own identities and learn to embrace change and their strength as a family in order to ultimately find acceptance and understanding.

"3 Generations" is set to hit U.S. theaters on May 5.
