Warner Bros. has released an official teaser of sci-fi thriller "Geostorm" which stars Gerard Butler. The movie centers on a scientist named Jake (Butler) who tries to save the world from disasters caused by broken climate-controlling satellites.

The tidal waves, tornadoes and explosions caused by satellite malfunction are intensely featured in the teaser. A creepy version of "What a Wonderful World" is playing in the background, enhancing the amount of creepiness in the video. The song comes out as an irony, considering the scenes in the teaser are more frightening than wonderful. "In the future, the technology that controls the weather controls the world," reads the line in the teaser.

The movie's synopsis reads, "After an unprecedented series of natural disasters threatened the planet, the world's leaders came together to create an intricate network of satellites to control the global climate and keep everyone safe. But now, something has gone wrong-the system built to protect the Earth is attacking it, and it’s a race against the clock to uncover the real threat before a worldwide geostorm wipes out everything...and everyone along with it."

"Geostorm" marks the feature film directorial debut of Dean Devlin, who produced and scribed "Independence Day" and "Independence Day: Resurgence". Also starring in "Geostorm" are Jim Sturgess as Jake's brother Max, Alexandra Maria Lara as ISS astronaut Ute Fassbinder, Daniel Wu as Dutch Boy Program Supervisor Cheng, Andy Garcia as U.S. President Andrew Palma, and Ed Harris as Secretary of State Leonard Dekkom. Other cast members include Adepero Oduye, Amr Waked, Robert Sheehan and Eugenio Derbez.

"Geostorm" is set to hit U.S. theaters on October 20.
