The White House issues a statement asking media to continue the 'longstanding tradition that the children of Presidents are afforded the opportunity to grow up outside of the political spotlight.'

AceShowbiz - Donald Trump's team wants media to respect his son Barron Trump's privacy. On Tuesday, January 24, the White House issued a statement asking people to stop bullying the 10-year-old and let him "grow up outside of the political spotlight."

"It is a longstanding tradition that the children of Presidents are afforded the opportunity to grow up outside of the political spotlight," read the statement. "The White House fully expects this tradition to continue. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter."

Barron has been a target of cyberbullying by those anti-Trump protesters. Last year, a YouTube user suggested that the POTUS' youngest son was autistic after a video surfaced showing him yawning and clapping. In response to the clip, which has now been deleted, his mom Melania Trump threatened to sue the YouTube user.

Most recently, Barron was the target of a joke made by "Saturday Night Live" writer Katie Rich. The 33-year-old writer faced backlash after she tweeted a few days ago, "Barron will be this country's first homeschool shooter."

The tweet was immediately removed and Katie was subsequently suspended from the long-running comedy show indefinitely. On Monday, she issued an apology on the same social media, saying, "I sincerely apologize for the insensitive tweet. I deeply regret my actions & offensive words. It was inexcusable & I'm so sorry."
