Sheeran's fans go into meltdown after the 'Thinking Out Loud' hitmaker returns to social media with a cryptic blue image.

AceShowbiz - In December 2015, Ed Sheeran announced that he was taking a break from social media. But for the first time in 12 months, the British singer/songwriter updated his Twitter and Instagram by posting a cryptic blue image, which he shared on Monday night, December 12.

The "Thinking Out Loud" hitmaker also changed his Twitter avatar and Instagram icon into the same shade of blue. His Facebook page is decked out in the same color, too.

Fans immediately expressed their delight at Sheeran's return. One Twitter user wrote, "welcome back GEEZE TOOK LONG ENOUGH," while another simply tweeted, "I CANT WAIT FOR WHATEVER IT IS."

Some fans also began speculating that the blue image was a clue about Sheeran's next album. A fan tweeted, "OK the album will be blue... what else?" while another wrote, "@edsheeran welcome back! Let's hear this new album!"

Songwriter Amy Wadge, who collaborates with Sheeran on his new album, says that Sheeran will "break the internet" when his new album is released. She tells BBC that the LP is "done" and it will drop "really soon."

Sheeran made his return to the stage just a couple weeks ago, when he performed a few songs at the East Anglian Children's Hospice gala at the Natural History Museum in London. "This is the first time I've done a show in a year, so please bear with me. It's nice to be back. I've had a whole year off," he told the audience.

"I went to Japan for about a month and hung out with Japanese people. Got my face cut open, anyone read about that?" he joked about the incident when Princess Beatrice accidentally cut his cheek with a sword during a party at Royal Lodge.
