Jessica Chastain to Star in and Produce Adaptation of 'Painkiller Jane'
Movie

The Oscar-nominated actress will play Jane Vasco, a New York street cop who is brutally tortured by a drug ring before she becomes the titular heroine.

AceShowbiz - Jessica Chastain is set to headline a movie adaptation of Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada's "Painkiller Jane". Deadline brings the words that in addition to playing Jane Vasco, the Oscar-nominated actress will serve as a producer for the movie via her Freckle Films banner.

She will team up with Lenny Beckerman of Lotus Entertainment and Solipsist Films' Stephen L'Heureux ("Sin City: A Dame to Kill for"). Palmiotti along with Bill Johnson, Jim Seibel and Ara Keshishian will serve as executive producers.

"Painkiller Jane" tells the story of Jane Vasco, a New York street cop who goes undercover to take down a drug ring, only to be caught and brutally tortured. However, Jane manages to come out of it alive with regenerative abilities and a thirst for vengeance.

It was adapted into the small-screen a couple of times before. The 1995 graphic novel series was made into a Syfy original movie in 2005, with Emmanuelle Vaugier starring as the titular heroine. It led to a 2007 series on the same channel. Starring Kristanna Loken as the show's protagonist, it lasted one season of 22 episodes.

Chastain is no stranger to playing a strong female character. She portrays the brilliant and ruthless anti-gun lobbyist Miss Sloane in the thriller that will arrive in U.S. theaters on November 25. The 39-year-old actress previously starred as a warrior named Sara, who was also the love interest of Chris Hemsworth's Eric in "The Huntsman: Winter's War".
