"Saturday Night Live" has found its new Donald Trump, partly thanks to Tina Fey. The show's executive producer Lorne Michaels reveals it was the "SNL" alum who came up with the idea that Alec Baldwin would be great at playing the Republican presidential candidate.

Michaels says he was talking to the "30 Rock" creator/star over the summer and "she said, 'You know who would be a great Trump is Alec!' " Michaels continues, "I talked to Alec, who was finishing a movie, he was getting ready to have a baby - it couldn't have been worse timing. But, slowly, the idea grew on me. People on the show liked it, and I thought he'd be great with Kate [McKinnon, who plays Hillary Clinton]."

Michaels adds, "And I thought, well, he's Alec," who has been a host on "SNL" 16 times. He recalls Baldwin's reaction at the time, "He said, 'I'm not sure I have a Trump,' and I said, 'Yeah, you do.' "

But that's not the only change on the show in the upcoming season. Darrell Hammond, who has been the show's announcer, will give up the role, but will still play Bill Clinton. "I knew that I wanted to shake it up," Michaels says, adding, "It was nothing to do with Darrell, because he's obviously great at it." He explains that "just as Darrell took over from Phil Hartman doing Bill Clinton, these things have to change."

He also talks about Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah's exit. "I think they were great, and they did wonderful work when they were with us," Michaels says. "They served the show well, and are two people I really care about." But "change is the lifeblood of the show; it always has been. And you have to keep bringing new people in. Hopefully it's for the best. I'm not worried about either of them going on to success," he adds.

"SNL" season 42 kicks off on October 1 with Margot Robbie as first-time host and The Weeknd as a musical guest.
