Joelle Carter, who played Jake's wife last season, will be replaced by Jessalyn Gilsig in the upcoming season of the ABC series.

"Scandal" will give Jake Ballard's (Scott Foley) a new wife in season 6. No, he's not divorcing Vanessa, but there will be a new face playing the character when the hit ABC drama series returns in midseason. "Glee" and "Vikings" alum Jessalyn Gilsig has been tapped to replace Joelle Carter for the upcoming installment.

Carter originated the role of Vanessa, whom Jake married in season 5. She's exiting the Shonda Rhimes-created series because of her commitment to NBC's "Chicago Justice", a new "Chicago Fire" spin-off, on which she is a series regular.

"Scandal" season 6 is bumped to midseason to accommodate leading lady Kerry Washington's pregnancy. Rhimes recently denied that the sixth season would be the last for the show. "Good Morning America" anchor Lara Spencer corrected herself after falsely suggesting that the show was coming to an end with the next season.

"We said that this was the last season of Scandal. Shonda has weighed in, she just tweeted, and she said we made her spit out her coffee. My apologies," Spencer clarified. "She said she has an ending in mind, but that ending is not happening this next season." She added, "So, correction: Ending in mind, but when that ending is happening we don't know."

Rhimes then posted on Twitter, "Thank you for the correction, @LaraSpencer -- you have my back!"
