Disney Plans 'Han Solo' Trilogy With Alden Ehrenreich
Movie

If the currently-written stand-alone film does well at the box office, the studio will make two follow-ups to the 'Star Wars' prequel.

The upcoming Han Solo movie could be the beginning of a trilogy if it does well at the box office. According to New York Daily News, actor Alden Ehrenreich, who was recently confirmed to star as young Han Solo in the untitled stand-alone Star Wars film II, has signed a three-movie deal with Disney.

Insiders told the site, "They feel that his character has the right potential to become a central figure in several movies. They're keeping things under wraps at the moment, but the deal is that he has signed for at least three movies."

The sources explained, "There is a real sense of excitement around the Han Solo movie and its potential. Given that Han's early adventures do not need to be tied to the Empire, it leaves story lines open with the opportunity to really give fans something different. They can explore new galaxies and crazy creatures and bring in a wide array of new characters."

The upcoming stand-alone film will be directed by Chris Miller and Phil Lord from a script written by Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon. Plot details are still kept under wraps, but it is believed that the film will focus on the origin story about Han Solo and his best buddy Chewbacca. The film is scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters on May 25, 2018.
