'Star Trek' Actor Anton Yelchin Dies at 27 After Being Pinned Against His Own Car

The actor, who played Chekov in 'Star Trek' movies, was found dead in the early hours of Sunday, June 19 at his home in Studio City, California.

AceShowbiz - %cAnton Yelchin%, who played Chekov in "Star Trek" movies, passed away in the early hours of Sunday, June 19. Anton was found dead at around 1 A.M. after being run over by his own car at his home in Studio City, California. He was 27.

According to police, Anton was killed when his car, which was parked in his driveway, rolled backwards and pinned him against a brick mailbox and a security fence. He was on his way to meet friends for a rehearsal and when he didn't show up, they went to his home and found him by his car.

His publicist Jennifer Allen said in a statement, "Actor Anton Yelchin was killed in a fatal traffic collision early this morning. His family requests you respect their privacy at this time."

Anton was mourned by his "Star Trek" family with a tribute posted on the movie's website. Directors J.J. Abrams and Justin Lin as well as co-stars %cZachary Quinto%, %cJohn Cho% and %cKarl Urban% also paid tribute to the late actor through social media.

Paramount Pictures said in a statement, "All of us at Paramount join the world in mourning the untimely passing of Antony Yelchin. As a member of the Star Trek family, he was beloved by so many and he will missed by all. We share our deepest condolences with his mother, father and family."
