The British vocalist enlisted A-side, a band made up by a group of 8th graders, for the cover and a Coldplay song called 'Twisted Logic' at a benefit concert in Santa Monica over the weekend.

AceShowbiz - Chris Martin helped raise money for pediatric cancer research by playing the Chords 2 Cure benefit concert in Santa Monica over the weekend. During his performance, he paid tribute to Prince with a cover of "Raspberry Beret".

Interestingly, the Coldplay frontman enlisted the help of a band called A-Side, which is made up of some 8th graders, for the song. When introducing the track, he recalled his little buddies' reaction when he first told them that he wanted to do the cover at the show.

"Yesterday I said, 'Let's do this song. It's a very famous Prince song,' " Martin said in front of the crowd. "And they said, 'We don't know it. We've never heard of it. We're like 14.' " The band, however, managed to learn the song in only a few hours and successfully performed it alongside the 39-year-old musician on the stage.

The benefit concert, which also saw Martin joined by the band for Coldplay's "Twisted Logic", came days after Prince passed away at the age of 57. The Purple One was found unresponsive at his Paisley Park Studios apartment on Thursday, April 21.

Following his passing, a number of fellow musicians honored him with covers of his songs. A few days ago, Bruce Springsteen did a cover of the late star's "Purple Rain" during his Brooklyn show. Sufjan Stevens and Gallant covered the same song during Coachella.
