Long before Deadpool gets his own movie, Ryan Reynolds played the character in 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine". But it was a very different version than the foul-mouthed antihero that fans loved from the comic books.

Speaking to People and Entertainment Weekly editorial director Jess Cagle ahead of the release of the Deadpool movie, Reynolds admitted that his first take on the character wasn't right. "It was a very frustrating experience," he said of his involvement in the Wolverine movie.

"I was already attached to the Deadpool movie. We hadn't at that point written a script yet. [Origins] came along and it was sort of like, 'Play Deadpool in this movie or we'll get someone else to.' And I just said, 'I'll do it, but it's the wrong version. Deadpool isn't correct in it.' "

The 39-year-old hunk recalled, "I was already attached to the Deadpool movie. We hadn't at that point written a script yet. ['Origins'] came along and it was sort of like, 'Play Deadpool in this movie or we'll get someone else to.' And I just said, 'I'll do it, but it's the wrong version. Deadpool isn't correct in it.' "

As the movie was filmed during the Hollywood writers strike of 2007-2008, Reynolds explained how it could end up being wrong, "So we were in the middle of production, there were no writers, no anything. Every line I have in the movie I just wrote myself because in the script we had, it said, 'Wade Wilson shows up, talks really fast.' I was like, 'What?! What am I supposed to do with that?' "

Thankfully, Reynolds has a chance to make amends for this wrong take with his portrayal of the character in Tim Miller-directed "Deadpool", which is set to open in theaters across the nation on Friday, February 12. The R-rated action flick is supported by the likes of Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Gina Carano, Brianna Hildebrand and Ed Skrein in the cast.
