HBO Dominates 2016 DGA Awards With 'Game of Thrones', 'Veep' and 'Bessie'

The other programs winning at this year's Directors of Guild America Awards include 'Saturday Night Live' and 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon'.

AceShowbiz - HBO leads the pack of winners at the Directors of Guild America Awards on Saturday, February 6 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles. The premium network bagged three wins with "Game of Thrones", "Veep" and "Bessie".

NBC follows with two gongs at the DGA Awards, one for "Saturday Night Live" and the other for "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon". Meanwhile, Disney Channel managed to win in Children's Programs with "Descendants".

Matthew Heineman won best documentary for "Cartel Land" about groups fighting the drug cartels in the U.S./Mexican border. He said, "I hope that this film will give voice to those trapped by the cycle of violence in hopes that one day the cycle will end."

The special Franklin J. Schaffner Award was presented by the guild to Tom McDermott and the Frank Capra Award to Mary Rae Thewlis. %cLeonardo DiCaprio%, %cMatt Damon%, %cBryan Cranston%, %cJoel Edgerton%, and %cNate Parker% were among the celebrity attendees.
