"Labyrinth", a 1986 fantasy movie starring late artist David Bowie, is getting a remake, according to The Hollywood Reporter. However, it's still premature to say that it's a remake as the news outlet pointed out that "it is unclear if the new take is a reimagining of the story or a sequel, as it is being kept deep in the vault."

Sony's arm TriStar has reportedly made a deal with The Jim Henson Co. to produce the movie. Furthermore, "Guardians of the Galaxy" co-writer Nicole Perlman has been hired to write the script for the supposed untitled Labyrinth remake. Lisa Henson of The Henson Co. will produce the project and Nicole Brown of TriStar will be overseeing it. Sony, TriStar's parent, didn't comment on the development.

The decision to hire Perlman as the scriptwriter seems to be right given that she is experienced in fantasy genre. She previously worked on "Guardians of the Galaxy" before James Gunn signed on. As of now, she's working on "Captain Marvel" with "Inside Out (2015)" writer Meg LeFauve.

"Labyrinth" centers on a teenager who has to navigate a fantastical maze in order to save her young brother, kidnapped by a goblin king (originally played by Bowie). Jim Henson, the director of the 1986 movie, quit film directing following the movie's box-office disappointment at the time of its release. The movie was executive produced by George Lucas and the script was written by Monty Python's member Terry Jones.
