The inductees of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's class of 2016 have been announced. Rap collective N.W.A, whose members include Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and the late Eazy-E, will be feted alongside Chicago, Cheap Trick, Steve Miller and Deep Purple at a ceremony set for April 8.

To be eligible for induction, the acts need to have released their first single or album 25 years ago. N.W.A, who has been eligible for some time, is only one of a very few hip-hop performers to join the Rock Hall, following the likes of Grandmaster Flash, Run DMC, Beastie Boys and Public Enemy.

"When we started N.W.A, I couldn't have imagined this," Dre expressed his excitement. "I never thought the type of music we were making would receive such a high accolade. I have always done what I love to do, so to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is unreal. I am humbled to be included in such an amazing group of great artists."

The future Rock Hall inductees were chosen by more than 800 members of the Hall's voting committee, which includes artists, historians and music industry members. Nominees who failed to make the cut this year include Janet Jackson, Nine Inch Nails, The Smiths, Los Lobos and Chic. The latter has been nominated a record 10 times.

The induction ceremony will return to New York City's Barclays Center and air on HBO in the spring of 2016. Tickets for the event go on sale in February. Pre-sale tickets are exclusively available to hall of fame members.
