Chris Martin talked about his personal struggle leading up to his divorce from Gwyneth Paltrow last year. In an interview on 2DayFM's Rove & Sam show, he opened up, "A few years ago I was in a low place in my life and was feeling kind of down and confused."

The Coldplay lead singer continued, "Those two things started me off on this whole journey where I just feel so happy to be alive. That may sound a little simple but I suddenly feel very grateful to be alive. If it's coming across then that's great to hear."

In a separate chat with Nicole Ritchie in front a live audience during Pearl xChange Q&A, Paltrow gave her own take on her marriage to Martin. "I am from a tribe of people who stay married. My parents stayed married until my dad died," she said.

"I think that it was very difficult for me that I couldn't do that and that I wasn't able to be married to the father of my children for the rest of my life," she added. "It was very challenging for me in terms of having to re-assess what that said about me, ideas that I had about that kind of failure."

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin share two children. The couple parted ways after 12 years of marriage. Paltrow has since moved on from her ex-husband with TV producer Brad Falchuk while Martin is dating actress Annabelle Wallis. He and his band are also gearing up to release a new album called "A Head Full of Dreams".
