"Taken" prequel has landed a straight-to series-order at NBC. The Peacock network has greenlit the drama series based on the 2008 action thriller starring Liam Neeson which was written and produced by Luc Besson.
As first reported by Deadline, the TV series will focus on how young Bryan Mills, the character played by Neeson in the movie and its two sequels, acquires his "very particular set of skills" and becomes the character depicted in the film. The TV series will be set in modern day, not decades in the past.
Search is currently underway for a writer/showrunner for the TV project. It's also unknown the number of episodes that NBC has ordered for the new series.
The first "Taken" movie grossed $226.8 worldwide and launched Neeson into an unlikely action star in his 50s. It spawned two sequels, "Taken 2" and "Tak3n", which were released in 2012 and 2015 respectively.
