Movie

The reboot will center on the classic masked character in a post-apocalyptic world which will be set in the near future.

It has been years since 20th Century Fox tried to develop a futuristic version of the legendary masked character Zorro. As the studio was busy with other projects, the proposed post-apocalyptic reboot entitled "Zorro Reborn" faded away, but now The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the "Zorro" reboot may have found a new life.

Lantica Media and Sobini Films will team up for the film, planning to begin principal photography in March 2016. Veteran producer and Sobini CEO Mark Amin, whose credits include "Good Kill" and "Frida, will serve as producer.

The film will be a post-apocalyptic take on the myth of Zorro, the pulp hero created by Johnston McCulley in 1919. It is set in the near future but keeps the idea of a masked and caped stranger taking on tyrants. On the traditional stories, Zorro is a hero of peasants and farmers who fought against corrupt and brutal officials of Spanish-held California.

"This has been a fifteen-year journey filled with ups and downs but it has remained my passion project over the years," said Sobini CEO Mark Amin. "Every generation has its own Zorro hero and we're proud to be able to introduce a new Zorro to this generation," said Lantica Media CEO Antonio Gennari.

As of now, there is no director attached to the project. Albert Martinez Martin is overseeing production for Lantica Pictures. Cami Winikoff and David W. Higgins will executive produce on behalf of Sobini.
