A man was arrested and charged in the death of Morgan Freeman's granddaughter, E'Dena Hines. Lamar Davenport, 30, was charged with one count of second-degree murder. The two were dating and had moved together into an apartment in Manhattan's Washington Heights.
Davenport reportedly dragged Hines, 33, from their house and stabbed her multiple times while yelling, "Get out, devils. I cast you out, devils." Police found her lying and bleeding on the street and him standing over her lifeless body. She was pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital Center with severe wounds to her torso.
Police said there were never domestic violence reports involving either of them, but Davenport had prior arrests that included marijuana and petit larceny. He was reportedly in a drug-induced psychosis during the violent incident. He was admitted to Columbia University Medical Center for mental evaluation.
Hines is the granddaughter of Freeman's first wife, Jeanette Adair Bradshaw. In the wake of her death, the actor said, "The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer. Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace."
