Speaking to Esquire for the magazine's September issue, the Rolling Stones guitarist shares his opinion on the Grammy-winning LP which frequently makes it to the best albums of all time lists.

Keith Richards is clearly not a fan of The Beatles' critically acclaimed "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album. In a new interview with Esquire for its September issue, the guitarist of The Rolling Stones trashed the iconic 1967 record which won the Fab Four multiple Grammys and has made several best albums of all time lists.
"There's not a lot of roots in that music. I think they got carried away. Why not? If you're the Beatles in the '60s, you just get carried away - you forget what it is you wanted to do," Richards told the magazine. "You're starting to do 'Sgt. Pepper'."
"Some people think it's a genius album, but I think it's a mishmash of rubbish, kind of like 'Satanic Majesties'," he continued, referring to The Rolling Stones' "Their Satanic Majesties Request" album which came out just months after 'Sgt. Pepper's'. "If you can make a load of s**t, so can we."
Richards is now gearing up to release his first solo album in 23 years. Called "Crosseyed Heart", the 15-song LP was mostly co-written by the veteran rocker with drummer and co-producer Steve Jordan. In addition to singing, Richards plays electric and acoustic guitars, bass and piano on the project, which is due out on September 18.
