The first song to have surfaced from the boys' new album breaks record as it topped the iTunes charts in 80 countries just minutes after its release late last week.

AceShowbiz - One Direction gave fans attending their Indianapolis concert a special treatment. Hours after releasing "Drag Me Down" on iTunes without prior notice on early Friday morning, July 31, the British boyband delighted the crowd by making them the first Directioners to have heard the new single performed live.

The track is the first offering from One Direction's upcoming fifth studio album, which is due out later this year. It went on to become the fastest-selling song ever as it landed at No. 1 on iTunes in 80 countries just minutes after its release.

"Drag Me Down" also marks One Direction's first without Zayn Malik who quit the band back in March. Following the song's arrival, the former member took to Twitter to praise it, writing, "Proud of my boys the new single is sick. Big love. :) x."

One Direction is currently working on their next album while traveling across North America for their "On the Road Again" tour. Zayn, meanwhile, is preparing his solo music, which will come out via RCA Records.
