Seth Gordon has reportedly parted ways with "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune", the upcoming adaptation of Sony's popular video game series. According to Umberto Gonzales of Heroic Hollywood, "the script is back in development and they're doing more work on it."

Umberto says Sony chief Tom Rothman "came in and asked them to do the movie at a smaller budget. Sony was hoping this was their 'Indiana Jones' and Rothman is looking at it like 'Resident Evil'." However, according to TheWrap, rather than getting a budget cut, Tom decided to take the project in a new creative direction which prompted Seth to leave.

Charles Roven and Alex Gartner are producing the movie for Atlas along with Arads with Mark Boal ("Zero Dark Thirty (2012)") writing the most recent draft of the script.

"Drake's Fortune" tells the story of Nathan Drake, a treasure hunter who believes that he knows where a fabled golden South American city El Dorado is located after learning it from a cursed statue. On his journey to find the ancient city, he's involved in some adventurous situations as he gets a rival hunter and is attacked by some creatures.

Before Seth was hired, Mark Wahlberg was cast for the role of Nathan with David O. Russell tapped to direct the project. David later left the project and was replaced by Neil Burger.

The "Uncharted" video game franchise remains a strong brand for Sony with the first three games collectively sold over 21 million copies. The fourth installment, "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End", will be the last entry in the video game series featuring Nathan and is set to be released in the U.S. in 2016.
