Instead of holding a wedding between her daughter and the decorated marine, Sarah Palin will host a gathering with family and friends.

AceShowbiz - The wedding between Bristol Palin and her fiance, Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Dakota Meyer, is called off. The announcement was made by Bristol's mother, Sarah Palin, on Facebook just a few days before the nuptials was supposed to take place this coming Saturday.
"Bristol and Dakota couldn't be more thankful for the love and support of family and friends over the past months while preparing for their wedding," the Palin matriarch wrote. "They have informed loved ones that unfortunately the announced celebration planned for May 23 will not be held."
Although the wedding is off, friends and family will star gather this weekend in Kentucky "to celebrate life, in general!" The former Governor of Alaska said, "All involved, especially Dakota, Bristol and Tripp, and their parents and grandparents, thank supporters for the love they've expressed."
No explanation is given regarding the cancellation but it was made shortly after a wedding certificate surfaced suggesting that Dakota could have been a married man. "Regarding salacious headlines in recent days about 'secret wives,' Dakota and I discussed our past relationships prior to our engagement," Bristol explained.
"Dakota was legally divorced years ago, as any good reporter could and should have disclosed to readers. As usual, false stories and dramatically written headlines begging controversy should be disregarded, and we have faith that our privacy will be respected at this time by those with decency. Thank you!"
Despite Bristol's claim that Dakota is a divorced man, the rumor is persistent. According to the Daily News, there is no record of a divorce for him.
Bristol announced her engagement to the decorated marine in March. He proposed to her at a Rascal Flatts concert.
