Natalie Portman in Early Talks to Star in 'Annihilation'
Movie

The 'Thor: The Dark World' actress is circling the lead role in the Alex Garland follow-up to 'Ex-Machina'.

AceShowbiz - Natalie Portman is in preliminary talks to star in Alex Garland's next sci-fi movie "Annihilation", Variety reports. The film will be produced by Scott Rudin and will be financed and distributed by Paramount Pictures.

Alex will write and direct "Annihilation" which is adapted from Jeff VanderMeer's novel. The story centers on a biologist who signs up for a dangerous, secret expedition where the laws of nature don't apply. Sources tell the site that the film production can't start any sooner than the beginning of 2016 but the two sides seemingly will settle on a start date soon.

Sources add that while other roles in the movie are being chased by everyone from Julianne Moore to Tilda Swinton, the studio will not begin considering anyone until Natalie's deal is sealed.

Natalie will next be seen in western action-drama "Jane Got a Gun" along with Joel Edgerton and Ewan McGregor. The movie is set to be released in the U.S. on September 4. Her directorial debut flick "A Tale of Love and Darkness", meanwhile, will premiere at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.
