The 'Winter's Tale' helmer is hired by Paramount to put together a 'writer's room' with original director Michael Bay to expand the 'Transformers' universe.

Paramount is milking "Transformers" franchise adapted from Hasbro toy line. As Michael Bay said he would step down from the director chair in upcoming installment, Akiva Goldsman is hired to spearhead an expansion project with multi-sequels and spin-offs among the outputs.
Bay is expected to still get involved in the franchise as a producer. According to a scoop from Deadline, the director will collaborate with Goldsman, executive producer Steven Spielberg, and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura to organize a "writer's room" to get the job done.
The last film "Transformers: Age of Extinction" was released last year with Mark Wahlberg as the new male lead replacing Shia LaBeouf. It became the first film in 2014 to hit $1 billion mark despite little critical praise. "Transformers 5" is planned for 2016. Wahlberg is expected to reprise his role.
