Smit-McPhee is joining previously-announced cast members which include Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner and Tye Sheridan. The three stars are set to play young version of Storm, Jean Grey and Cyclops respectively.

The 18-year-old actor most recently worked with Magneto depicter Michael Fassbender. Their movie "Slow West" premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and won World Cinema Dramatic Grand Jury Prize.

News of Smit-McPhee's casting was shared just one day after Singer teased Apocalypse's origin. He shared a production art image showing a figure which apparently is Apocalypse standing near what appears to be a spaceship. The craft, which is speculated to be Ship, will later be the character's base and later X-Men's at one point.

The follow-up to "X-Men: Days of Future Past" will also feature appearances from familiar faces such as James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence. The movie is set to start production in April with May 27, 2016 release date.
