Movie

Byrne's CIA agent character MacTaggert, who previously appeared in 'X-Men: First Class', is back to the follow-up to 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'.

AceShowbiz - "X-Men: Apocalypse" is bringing back Rose Byrne's CIA agent character Moira MacTaggert. The character previously appeared in "X-Men: First Class" and her memory was wiped by Charles Xavier. The exciting news about Byrne's return to the follow-up to "X-Men: Days of Future Past" was reported by Entertainment Weekly on Friday, January 30.

"She's a significant character in the movie. We ended 'First Class' with Charles having wiped portions of her memory of her experience with the X-Men. They are, essentially, strangers to her when she meets them," screenwriter Simon Kinberg shared, before teasing that fans might expect more storyline between Xavier and MacTaggert. "It's certainly a rich relationship that we started to dig into in 'First Class', and would like to mine more in this one," he said.

Speaking to the outlet, Kinberg refused to reveal more details regarding "Apocalypse". However, he said of the movie, "This movie is the completion of the first arcs of Charles, Eric, Raven, and Hank, who are essentially our main characters. They're such young actors and young characters, so there's a lot more story to tell. But as a first phase of their lives, there is this feeling of closure by the end of the movie."

In the interview, Kinberg who is also involved with "The Fantastic Four" reboot as screenwriter, touched the topic of crossover between the X-Men and Fantastic Four. "The reboot of FanFour really needed to work in and of itself. We were doing something pretty radical with the tone of the movie," he said, suggesting that the first movie would not set the meeting between the two groups.

However, there still will be chances to set the meeting. "If we wanted to find a way to connect them to the X-Men, we could. There's a lot of precedent from the comics," Kinberg added.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will be set in the 80s. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are back as Professor Xavier and Magneto respectively. Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult and Evan Peters will reprise their respective roles as Mystique, Beast and Quicksilver. Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner and Tye Sheridan were recently announced to play young Storm, Jean Grey and Cyclops respectively. Directed by Bryan Singer, the movie is set for release on May 27, 2016.
