The Clair Huxtable of 'The Cosby Show' believes the sexual assault allegations against her on-screen husband is a ploy to bring him down.

AceShowbiz - Phylicia Rashad comes to Bill Cosby's defense against sexual assault allegations. The actress who played Bill's on-screen wife on CBS' "The Cosby Show" believes the rape accusations made by dozen of women against the comedian are part of a conspiracy to destroy his career and legacy.

She insists she never saw any signs of misbehavior in her co-star during the years they worked together. "Forget these women," she told Showbiz 411. "What you're seeing is the destruction of a legacy. And I think it's orchestrated. I don't know why or who's doing it, but it's the legacy. And it's a legacy that is so important to the culture."

"Someone is determined to keep Bill Cosby off TV," the Clair Huxtable depicter claimed. "And it's worked. All his contracts have been canceled." She added, "This show represented America to the outside world. This was the American family. And now you're seeing it being destroyed. Why?"

Phylicia also defends Bill's real-life loyal wife Camille. "This is a tough woman, a smart woman," she said. "She's no pushover." According to the actress, there was no way Camille would tolerate such behavior from her husband during their 50 years together.

When asked about Bill's silence on the matter, Phylicia believes Bill has too much pride to speak up. "If he spoke now, what do you think the media would do with it?" she added.
