A few original cast members of "Extant" aren't returning for the show's second season. According to a new report from Deadline, Hiroyuki Sanada and Michael O'Neill aren't expected to appear at all in the next episodes of the CBS series due to a shift in its storyline.

Goran Visnjic and Camryn Manheim will still join Halle Berry in several episodes before disappearing completely. Meanwhile, Pierce Gagnon who plays Berry's on-screen android son Ethan and Grace Gummer who stars as Julie Gelineau, the assistant of Visnjic's character, are all back as series regulars. Some new roles have yet to be cast.

"Extant" premiered back in July. Receiving generally favorable reviews from critics, the series was granted a renewal in early October. Its second season will focus on Berry's Molly Woods as she's attempting to track down her alien son who is threatening the human race.
