AceShowbiz - A new helmer has been tapped for the upcoming "Star Trek 3". "Fast and Furious 6" director Justin Lin will take the position behind the lens after Roberto Orci backed out a few weeks ago.
Orci originally was tapped to direct the sci-fi adventure film to replace the previous two movies helmer J.J. Abrams who passed on the project focus on "Star Wars: The Force Awakens". Patrick McKay and John D. Payne work on the "Star Trek 3" script.
The previous installment in "Star Trek" franchise, "Star Trek: Into Darkness", was released in 2013 and raked in $467.4 million globally. Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, John Cho, Alice Eve and Benedict Cumberbatch were among the cast.
Release date for the movie depicting the adventure of the USS Enterprise crew members has not been set, but it was reported to be released in 2016 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the series' debut.
