AMC Networks Inc. enters into a longterm partnership deal with the home of 'Doctor Who' and 'Orphan Black' which will give them operational control of the network.

AMC Networks Inc. will spend $200 million to buy a 49.9|percent| stake in BBC America. The New York-based company announced the longterm partnership deal with BBC Worldwide on Thursday, October 23.
Under the deal, AMC will have operational control of the home of such shows as "Doctor Who" and "Orphan Black", and manage it as a stand-alone channel. The BBC, which will retain 50.1|percent| ownership, said that the partnership would help it reach new audiences in the U.S., while creating opportunities for the U.K.'s "creative community."
"The value of premium content and smart television is going to grow," said Tim Davie, chief executive of BBC Worldwide, "and we felt that there was a really compelling logic to create a company that has scale in the area of smart television."
AMC and BBC have previously teamed up on drama series "Top of the Lake" and "The Honorable Woman".
