The band will be considered for the 57th annual Grammys after they released a limited number of vinyl copies of 'Songs of Innocence' to retailers on the Tuesday, September 30 cutoff date.

Shortly after U2 made their new album, "Songs of Innocence", available for free on iTunes earlier this month, a spokesperson for the Grammys said the band wouldn't be eligible for the 2015 Grammy Awards. The spokesperson said at that time the record should be available for purchase before Tuesday, September 30 to be considered for next year's ceremony.
However, Bono and Co. can now compete with other musicians at the 57th annual Grammy Awards that's scheduled for February 8, 2015. As reported by Rolling Stone, the band released a limited number of vinyl copies of "Songs of Innocence" to retailers on the Tuesday cutoff date.
In response to the news, a representative for the Grammys told the site, "As long as the album, be it CD, vinyl or digital, is available commercially for sale to the public by our eligibility cutoff date at a nationally recognized retailer or website, then it's eligible for consideration."
U2 spent two years working on "Songs of Innocence". Danger Mouse, Paul Epworth and OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder are some names involved in the project. The album will be digitally available on iTunes until it's officially released on October 13.
