After taking the photo, the doctor performed the biopsy.

It later caused swelling to the vocal cords and blocked her airway. Rivers passed away a week later on September 4 at the age of 81.

The Manhattan clinic has denied that they did "a biopsy of the vocal cords" to their patients. They additionally said, "General anesthesia has never been administered at Yorkville Endoscopy. The type of sedation used at Yorkville Endoscopy is monitored anesthesia care. Our anesthesiologists utilize light to moderate sedation."
