Karl Urban says the sequel to 'Dredd 3D' could explore the background story of the titular judge.

If "Dredd 3D" gets a second movie, according to Karl Urban, it will possibly be a prequel, not a sequel. During Chicago Comic Con, the actor who played the titular judge in the 2012 film dropped a hint at which comic storyline the movie could follow in the next installment.

"Is there a possibility of maybe getting to see the dark judges in Dredd 2 or beyond?" he said at the event. "Why yes, there is a definite possibility. But, it is more likely that we will do the origins story with Dredd trekking through the cursed earth to find the first Chief Judge Fargo."

"Dredd" is a remake of a 1995 movie starring Sylvester Stallone. The R-rated pic pulled in only $41 million worldwide. Producer Adi Shankar once said, "Yeah, there are conversations going on [but] there's no f**king script." Urban, meanwhile, previously asked fans to start a Kickstarter campaign to get the sequel off the ground quickly.
