After being teased with a preview over the weekend, Alicia Keys' new track "We Are Here" arrived in full on Monday, September 8. Hitting the web via Facebook, it comes along with an accompanying music video that simply features the R&B star singing while rocking braids and playing a piano on a rooftop of a building in her native New York City.

Keys talks about current global and political issues on the empowering ballad. "Let's talk about Chi-town/ Let's talk about Gaza/ Let's talk about Israel... let's talk Nigeria/ And the mass hysteria/ Our souls are brought together/ So that we can love each other," she sings.

"The day I wrote this song, I was sitting in a circle of people of all ages and we were asked, 'Why are you here.' Why am I here?? This really hit me on a deep level. I realized no one had ever asked me that question before," Keys said in a lengthy message posted alongside her new video.

The singer, who's currently pregnant with her second child, continued, "As I prepare to give birth to a new child, I can't help and think about the world I'm bringing my baby into. No matter where we come from, when we see the state of the world today, we can all feel the growing frustration and desire to make a difference. And we all have a voice - we just need to know how to make it heard."

On Monday night, Keys visited "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" and delivered the first live performance of "We Are Here". She confirmed the track would appear on her upcoming new album, but would not serve as its first single.
