Artist of the Week: Taylor Swift

The singer, whose latest single 'Shake It Off' is currently at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100, has said that her upcoming '1989' album won't be focusing on her failed love relationships.

AceShowbiz - Taylor Swift is officially back. During her Yahoo! live stream late last month, the 24-year-old superstar excited fans with the announcement of her new album and the release of its lead single along with its accompanying music video.

Titled "1989", the new LP will be totally different from Swift's previous releases. The singer, who rose to fame for being a country musician and penning songs about her ex-boyfriends, has decided to go pop on the follow-up to the Grammy-nominated "Red" (2012).

Additionally, the blonde who hasn't publicly dated anyone in a while has revealed her new songs will no longer be focusing on her relationships with men.

"[Red] was a devastating record. It was about dealing with an intense heartbreak," Swift told Fusion recently. "[Meanwhile, '1989' is about] the phase after that where you brush yourself off and you're okay ... [Writing 'Red'], I was very enamored by romance and the idea of that."

"At this point, I just want to be with my friends and I want to make music and I want to play shows," she continued. "I want travel the world and I want to define my life on my own terms. That's my list of priorities now, which is different than it was a couple of years ago."

The album's lead single "Shake It Off" is the proof. Instead of talking about her failed romance, Swift sings about enjoying life while many people always have negative words for her on the upbeat and dancey track produced by hitmaker Max Martin.

"The message in the song is a problem I think we all deal with and an issue we deal with on daily basis. We don't like just in a celebrity takedown culture, we live in a takedown culture," she explained the meaning behind "Shake It Off" in another interview on "Good Morning America".

"People will find anything about you and twist it to where it's weird or wrong or annoying or strange or bad. You have to not only live your life in spite of people who don't understand you; you have to have more fun than they do," she added.

Upon its surprise arrival, "Shake It Off" received positive reviews from fans. It debuted at No. 1 on Billboard 200 with 544,000 downloads, thanks in part to her performance at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards. That's the largest debut sales week for a single in 2014, and the fourth overall. The single is currently spending another week atop the chart.
