AceShowbiz - Calvin Harris' "Summer" is officially song of the summer. Spotify announced on Thursday, September 4 that the DJ's aptly-titled single became the most streamed song in the past three months after it was played 160 million times globally.
Although "Summer" only peaked at No. 7 on Billboard Hot 100, it manages to beat chart-toppers like Ariana Grande's "Problem", Magic!'s "Rude" and Iggy Azalea's "Fancy", which occupy the second, third and fourth place on the list respectively.
"Calvin took a risk by singing on the track. He could easily have brought in a mega-famous starlet like Rihanna, and it paid off," said Spotify's trends expert Shanon Cook. "His laidback voice lends a summery and sexy vibe and when combined with his punchy dance beats, you have a song that works perfectly for poolside lazing as well as hands-in-the-air beach partying."
However, Azalea's "Fancy" which has ruled the Hot 100 for multiple weeks comes out as Spotify's most streamed song in the U.S. with 16.5 million streams. Behind the Charli XCX-assisted smashing hit are Magic!'s "Rude", Grande's "Problem" and Nico & Vinz's "Am I Wrong". Meanwhile, the international song of the summer, Harris' "Summer", closes out the top 5.
