"Mission: Impossible V" gets an official release date. The upcoming fifth installment of Tom Cruise-starring blockbuster franchise based on a TV series of the same name is confirmed by Paramount to be released in the United States on December 25, 2015.

"Iron Man 3" scribe Drew Pearce writes the script. Cruise will reunite with "Jack Reacher" director Christopher McQuarrie who is set to serve behind the lens. The actor co-produces the pic with J.J. Abrams whose own tentpole "Star Wars Episode 7" will be released one week prior to the spy film.

"MI 5" will face competition from Ben Affleck's "Live by Night" on Christmas Day. Other potential box office hits joining the December release include "Alvin and the Chipmunks 4" (December 11), "Warcraft" & "Inferno" (December 18), and "Kung Fu Panda 3" (December 23).

Meanwhile, hot on heels of the change on Universal & Focus Features' "Fifty Shades of Grey" release date, Sony moves its raunchy comedy "Sex Tape" from July 18 to August 1, 2014 previously occupied by the much-awaited erotic drama.

Also getting an adjustment on its release date is Jerry Bruckheimer's paranormal thriller "Beware the Night". Starring Eric Bana and Olivia Munn, it's moved up to holiday weekend on July 2, 2014 from its original January 16, 2015 date.
