Fans got angry when they attended R. Kelly's show in Louisiana on Saturday night, October 26. The fans demanded refund after they claimed that the man who took the stage at the Monroe Civic Centre wasn't actually the star
Concertgoers, who paid $150 for each ticket, told local news station KNOE that the alleged impersonator took the stage at the venue three hours late. Wearing a hoodie, Bulls hat, and sunglasses, he then lip-synced for four minutes.
One anonymous female fan said, "The advertisement online through Ticketmaster said that it was a Ced's All Black Affair and R Kelly performing live, which did not happen last night."
"We was scammed because 10 o'clock we was there, no R. Kelly. 11 o'clock: no R Kelly, 12 o'clock: no R. Kelly, 12:45: no R. Kelly. 1 o'clock, here comes an impersonator," she continued. The female fan even claimed that she saw the same impersonator in a nearby restaurant earlier that day.
That night's event was promoted by Cedric Johnson. In a text message, which was sent to KNOE, Johnson said that he was "duped" and he would be refunding half of the concertgoers' money.
After initially agreeing to refund fans, Cedric Johnson has now taken back the offer, claiming he did not send the original message.
A representative for R. Kelly has commented on the news, telling Pitchfork that it was the real R. Kelly on the stage. The rep then noted that the event was billed as featuring an "appearance" from R Kelly, not as a full concert.
