Meg Ryan has landed her first TV role since her last on-screen series regular role on 1985's short-lived Western series "Wildside". The Golden Globe-nominated actress has signed up to star on a new NBC comedy.

Hailed from "Family Ties" writer and Emmy nominee Marc Lawrence, the single-camera comedy will feature Ryan as a sunny, devoted and desperately non-confrontational single mom who decides to return to her New York publishing house where she was once a brilliant editor to find that she now works for Brenda, her neurotic 30-year-old boss who was once her former intern.

Now Rose must find a way to keep her boss, her teenage kids, her almost ex-husband and her meddlesome mother-in-law all happy, which results in her overcomplicating every situation and somehow always making it worse.

Ryan and Lawrence will also executive produce the yet-to-be-titled project alongside Ryan's manager Jane Berliner. NBC has ordered the pilot for the half-hour comedy.

Ryan had a co-starring role on NBC's 1982 sitcom "One of the Boys", which only lasted 13 episodes. Her last scripted TV series appearance was in season 7 of "Curb Your Enthusiasm", in which she played herself.

Earlier this month, another film star Halle Berry made a commitment to headline CBS' drama "Extant" from executive producer Steven Spielberg. The futuristic thriller has received a straight-to-series order for a 2014 summer premiere.
