Jon Hamm is going to undergo a surgery to remove a vocal-cord polyp. A representative for Hamm has released a statement concerning the actor's health, calling the surgery a "routine outpatient procedure." The actor is "having a single polyp removed from his throat," the rep says, as quoted by Radar Online.

Previous reports suggested that Hamm learned of the polyp after he coughed up blood, but a source tells Gossip Cop that it was not true. "He has NEVER coughed up blood. He only has one (singular) polyp, and it is NOT cancerous at all," the source says. Hamm reportedly told his "Mad Men" co-star January Jones about the surgery at an Emmy Awards after-party in Los Angeles on Sunday night, September 22.

Vocal-cord polyp apparently is common for singers, actors and others who use their voices in great deal. Singers such as Adele, Mariah Carey and John Mayer have underwent the surgeries.

Hamm sported full beard at the Emmys. Wearing a white suit, the 42-year-old actor went onstage to present a trophy at the Sunday show. His voice was noticeably raspier. The Don Draper depicter was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama, but Jeff Daniels got the prize for his role on "The Newsroom".
