James Cameron Praises 'Gravity' as It Launches First Full Trailer
Movie

The 'Avatar' director calls the Alfonso Cuaron movie, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, 'the best space film ever done.'

James Cameron turns out to be one of many people who sing praises for "Gravity", one of the 2013 movies that get early Oscar buzz. During a chat with Variety, the "Avatar" helmer admits he "was stunned, absolutely floored" when his fellow filmmaker, Alfonso Cuaron, screened his latest flick, which stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, for him four weeks ago.

"I think it's the best space photography ever done, I think it's the best space film ever done, and it's the movie I've been hungry to see for an awful long time," Cameron says. Of what is interesting in the film, he says it's "the human dimension," explaining, "Alfonso and Sandra working together to create an absolutely seamless portrayal of a woman fighting for her life in zero gravity."

The Oscar-winning director keeps on gushing, "I read the script, and I thought it was tremendously challenging to shoot with a high degree of veracity to get the real look of zero gravity. I'm sure Alfonso had a real uphill battle with the studio, with everyone involved, to get it the way it needed to look. But he knew in his mind how it needed to look, and he went after it."

Co-written by Cuaron's son, Jonas, "Gravity" follows a brilliant medical engineer (Bullock) who gets stranded in space with a veteran astronaut (Clooney) when their spacewalk is interrupted by their shuttle's unexpected destruction.

After several clips, Warner Bros. finally drops the first full trailer for the Venice festival opener. In the video, fans will be able to know more of Bullock's character as she talks to Clooney's about her family.

"Gravity" will hit theaters nationwide on October 4.
