Sean Connery's best friend Michael Caine blasts German Sunday newspaper Bild after it claimed that the former Bond actor was suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Speaking to U.K.'s Daily Record, Caine brands the report "nonsense."

He angrily told the media outlet, "It's all bulls**t, completely preposterous. I did some interviews over in Germany for a new film and I can only assume someone has twisted my words or got the wrong end of the stick." The actor, who won an Oscar trophy for his work in Woody Allen's "Hannah and Her Sisters", said that his friend was fine when he spoke to him recently.

"I haven't seen Sean for a couple of years, but my wife and I spoke to him on the phone on his birthday this week and he was very well. He was fine, in complete control of his senses and his usual self. This stuff about Alzheimer's is just nonsense. I have no idea where they are getting it from," Caine explained.

Connery's agent Nancy Seltzer also made a statement concerning the actor's health report. "I'm sure Michael was misquoted," Seltzer said, adding that the Alzheimer's disease claim was "silly." Seltzer continued, "I don't want to give this story any credence by responding."

Previously, the false report was written under headline, "Connery forgets his life." The newspaper quoted Caine as saying, "One must have serious concerns for him." It also claimed that Connery's wife Micheline Roquebrune was worried one day she would receive a phone call conveying bad news.

Caine and Connery became best friends after meeting on the set of 1975's hit "The Man Who Would Be King". Connery retired from making public appearances in 2011. His latest film was "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" in 2003.
